Texas field notes

Our organic cotton is sourced from the Texas South Plains. We visited the cotton farms, the gin and FM 669 (Farm to Market Road) that gave the brand its name.

Here the fields of cotton stretch toward the horizon.  Each plant blooms a small flower, then the seed pod breaks open to reveal raw cotton fibre. Most of this cotton grows from rainfall alone. The farm we visit is rooted in regenerative practice: rotating crops, planting cover, and letting cattle graze to nourish the soil.

By late October, when the first frost sets in, the cotton plants become ready for harvest. The harvest moves to one of the few certified organic gins in the region. The gin cleans the fibre and removes the seed. The fibre continues on its journey to mills and the remaining cotton seeds return to feed cattle.

The “Farm to Market” FM 669 road runs near these fields. The Farm to Market roads were established to serve the needs of rural communities, connecting farms to towns and markets. FM 669 began as a name on a map, but also as a reminder of where things come from and how they travel from the field to the factory in New York.
